The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a breed that comes in a wide variety of colours, giving you a handful of choices if you have a desired colour in your mind. If you’re currently on the lookout for the best Staffy puppy out there, chances are you’re also curious which colours are the rarest for this breed and which ones fetch the highest prices.
The Staffy breed primarily comes in six colours: red, fawn, black, white, blue, and brindle, but they may also come with white portions on their fur causing a combination of colours. But what are the rarest colours that a Staffy can come in? Here are three coat colours that may be considered uncommon or the rarest:
1. Blue and White Staffies
While not exactly a colour that emerges once in a blue moon, the blue and white colours in Staffy puppies aren’t that popular – often overtaken by solid-coloured options. This makes them a rare colour for breeders to offer. However, their rarity adds to their charm. These Staffy puppies often have a bluish-grey hue in varying spots in their bodies, giving them an irresistible diluted shade that’s accompanied by big white portions on their bodies or small specks of white on a near-solid blue coat.
There is another rarer type of Staffy related to blue Staffies. A blue nose Staffy can have blue coloured noses, eyes, and sometimes toenails, but their coat colour can be something else entirely.
2. Black and White Staffies
Along with blue and white Staffies, black and white Staffy puppies may also be considered rare because a lot of breeders often choose to breed solid-coloured Staffies instead. If you’re looking for black and white Staffies, you may want to look for breeders who have multi-coloured dames and sires since they have a higher chance of breeding combination-coloured pups.
3. Tan or Liver-Coloured Staffies
Lastly, the rarest colour for Staffies to have are tan or liver. If you’ve scoured the Internet about Staffordshire Bull Terriers, you’ve probably seen that the tan and liver colours are not recognized by the American Kennel Club for a variety of reasons. In a way, tan Staffies are considered “undesirable” when it comes to breeding specifications. Because of their rarity, there are rumors that tan-coloured Staffies may not belong to a pure-blooded Staffy line and may have been bred with another dog breed to produce the rare colour.
However, while tan or liver-coloured staffies are not primarily recognized by a lot of breeders and owners who look at pedigree, it doesn’t make them undesirable in many pet parents’ eyes. With their light brownish hue, tan or liver-coloured Staffies are just as irresistible as their other coloured counterparts.
